A six-week journey into the world of embodied education

What if knowledge isn't something we simply acquire but something we feel, touch and taste?

Modern education has taught us to privilege the thinking mind. Yet our bodies are constantly perceiving, relating and thinking, and all of this precious information and intelligence is currently left out of our current approach to education. We suggest that this might be why the ideas we produce don’t quite seem to be at the measure of the lives we dream of living.

This six-week course explores what becomes possible when teaching and learning are understood as fully embodied, relational and creative practices. We will explore ways of transcending the mind-body split so deeply rooted in our worldview. We will take the soul out of the realm of educational taboo. From Sufism to poetry via neurology, play and the science of the heart we will look at how our bodies can illuminate and energise the learning process.

Informed by somatics, process-oriented psychology, depth psychology and tantra, this short course looks at the ways bodies relate in the classroom, the baseline patterns of knowledge creation, the dynamic nature of information and intelligence, the role of symbol and imagination in processing information, and how you can apply this understanding to explore and expand your own practice.

The course is rooted in the notion that as human beings inside an animate world, we are all inextricably connected, both with each other and with the ideas that we share. This dynamic tapestry of entanglement, relationship and life takes place through the entirety of our being. Our traditional definition of knowledge is extraordinarily narrow. This course is our offering towards changing that.

This course is reaching towards an embodied, ensouled practice of education that extends far beyond the confines of any single physical or institutional structure. One that is capable of dancing inside the creative unknown, that lives as an active practice of love, and arches towards a future that is full of life, colour, movement and hope.

❋ Intentional Structure

Each session will weave between theory, reflection and practice, to ensure that every concept and idea you pick up in this process has space and time to be lived, understood and integrated. Your body and your creativity will live at the forefront of this inquiry. The course combines weekly 90-minute workshops, readings, home-practice, a final project that will draw together your personal insights and questions, and ongoing space to articulate and refine your own vision of an embodied education.

❋ Community Oriented

Connection, relationality and community are a core part of the process and the practices shared here. You will have opportunities to connect in community throughout the course, and access to an online community after the course has ended. You will also have dedicated time to meet each other and explore opportunities for collaboration and co-creation, and we will support your efforts in every way that we can.

❋ Rooted in Experience

This course is informed by 13 years experience in inclusive learning and programme design. I have taught and managed provisions in secondary SEND settings, behaviour units, mainstream schools, FE, universities, and alternative healing spaces. I have worked with educators across the UK and internationally to cultivate decolonial approaches to education that centre the body, compassion and love. My work is designed according to principles that honour the diversity of realities and experiences.

❋ Inclusive Learning Space

All sessions and content are informed by an educational approach that centres consent, compassion, trauma awareness, decoloniality, creativity, and love. You will always be at choice when it comes to participation. This is an experimental space outside of everyday settings where we get to explore alternative ways of relating in a learning environment. The physical, embodied experience of what it feels like to learn in this way is designed to nourish you on both a professional and personal level.

“And sometimes the mountain top is difficult to reach with all our resources, factual and confessional, so we are just there, collectively grasping, feeling the limitations of knowledge, longing together, yearning for a way to reach that highest point. Even this yearning is a way to know”
